Troy Elbert Faulkner, Destruction of Government Property, Washington District of Columbia 2021

Washington D.C. – In a shocking turn of events, Troy Elbert Faulkner, a 41-year-old man from Whitehall, Ohio, has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of destruction of government property for his role in the January 6 Capitol breach.

According to court documents, on January 6, 2021, shortly after 2:30 p.m., Faulkner was part of a large crowd illegally outside the U.S. Capitol. He jumped up onto a window ledge and used his left foot to kick in two lower panes, shattering them. The Architect of the Capitol estimated the cost of the damage to the window is $10,560, making this a felony offense.

Faulkner was arrested on December 8, 2021, in Blanchester, Ohio. He is set to be sentenced on October 14, 2022. Faulkner faces a statutory maximum of 10 years in prison and potential financial penalties. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

In the 18 months since January 6, 2021, more than 850 individuals have been arrested in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including over 260 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.
