Nathaniel Sanders II, a 32-year-old Miami Beach resident, has been charged with making repeated online threats to assassinate President Donald J. Trump and other senior US officials. From at least January through April 2026, Sanders allegedly used social media platforms X and Instagram to post numerous threats against the President, Secretary of State and Acting National Security Advisor Marco Rubio, and former Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
The charges against Sanders come after an investigation by the US Secret Service and the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida. According to court records, Sanders’ online threats were deemed serious enough to warrant federal charges, which could result in a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison if convicted.
US Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones emphasized that threats against public officials are not protected speech, but rather serious federal crimes that endanger public safety and the rule of law. The US Secret Service also warned that making threats against the President is a federal crime that will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.
Sanders is charged with threatening the President of the United States and transmitting threats in interstate commerce. His case will now be tested in court, where he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
