MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – In a gruesome display of violence behind bars, Austin Isaac Furr, a 23-year-old from Glenpool, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 80 months in prison for Voluntary Manslaughter in Indian Country.
The brutal crime took place on September 26, 2021, within the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in Pittsburg County, where Furr was being held. During a struggle with his cellmate, Furr resorted to stabbing and strangling the man, ultimately taking his life.
The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Office of the Inspector General, revealed the shocking details of the crime. Furr’s actions were nothing short of cold-blooded, and his sentence reflects the severity of the crime.
On October 11, 2023, Furr pleaded guilty to the charge of Voluntary Manslaughter in Indian Country. The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. Chief Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing.
Furr will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence. Assistant United States Attorney Jordan Howanitz represented the United States in this case.
