A Tulsa, Oklahoma, man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute large amounts of methamphetamine in southwest Missouri.
Jeffrey L. Hughley, 39, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution ring that spanned multiple counties.
On November 6, 2023, Hughley pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.
Prosecutors alleged that Hughley was a key player in the conspiracy, delivering over 4.5 kilograms of pure methamphetamine to co-defendant Brian E. Hall, 46, of Aurora, Missouri, between November 1, 2020, and April 28, 2022.
Law enforcement officers arrested Hughley on April 28, 2022, after executing a search warrant at Hall’s residence, where they found 22 pounds of methamphetamine, a loaded pistol, and $57,000 in cash.
A co-conspirator told investigators that Hughley made multiple trips to multiple states to distribute methamphetamine, earning thousands of dollars in the process. In April 2022, Hughley purchased a drone for $5,730, which he and a co-conspirator discussed using to smuggle contraband into a prison facility.
This case is part of an ongoing federal investigation that has resulted in 20 defendants being charged. Hall, the other defendant in the case, pleaded guilty on March 22, 2023, and awaits sentencing.
The government’s sentencing memorandum highlighted the devastating impact of methamphetamine use on youth and families, noting that children whose parents use methamphetamine have an increased risk of exposure to parental violence, placement into foster care, and living in environments that do not have adequate resources to meet their basic needs.
