Two Alabama Men Sentenced for Stolen Identity Refund Fraud

Two Alabama men have been sentenced to prison for their roles in stolen identity refund fraud (SIRF) cases. Deundra Milhouse was sentenced to 81 months in prison, while Fredrick Hill received a 74-month sentence.

According to the investigation, Milhouse used stolen identities to steal money from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) by filing fraudulent tax returns claiming refunds in the victims’ names. He received over $80,000 in fraudulently obtained tax refunds into a bank account he controlled from 2011 to 2013. By 2013, he switched to using prepaid debit cards to receive the refunds.

Milhouse was found to be in possession of numerous prepaid debit cards, documents with personal identifying information, and a computer used to file tax returns. He stipulated that his conduct involved an attempted fraud loss of over $400,000 to more than 250 victims.

Hill, on the other hand, sold stolen identities to others to be used in SIRF crimes. He admitted to possessing dozens of prepaid debit cards and more than 300 stolen identities in connection with his involvement in SIRF crime.

Both cases were investigated by special agents of IRS – Criminal Investigation, with assistance from the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office in the Milhouse case. Trial Attorneys Jason Poole and Michael Boteler of the Tax Division prosecuted the Milhouse case, while Trial Attorneys Jason Poole and Gregory Bailey prosecuted the Hill case.

The Tax Division and its enforcement efforts can be found on their website.

Deundra Milhouse and Fredrick Hill, both residents of Alabama, were sentenced in separate stolen identity refund fraud cases. Milhouse was previously convicted of access device fraud, aggravated identity theft, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was arrested in late January and has been detained since his indictment in December 2013.
