A 32-year-old Tahlequah resident has been sentenced to federal prison for his involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking ring in Eastern Oklahoma.
Tyler Aaron Meigs pleaded guilty to possessing a quantity of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it to others in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
On October 4, 2022, Cherokee County Sheriff deputies arrived at the scene of a single car accident, where Meigs was found in possession of a handgun and approximately 41 grams of methamphetamine.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Meigs was subsequently charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The charges arose from investigations by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Meigs was sentenced to 63 months in prison for each count, with the terms of imprisonment to run consecutively.
The Honorable Keith Starrett, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi, sitting by assignment, presided over the hearings in Muskogee.
Assistant United States Attorney Ryan Bondura represented the United States.
Meigs was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
