TYLER, Texas – In a stunning turn of events, 54-year-old Tyler building contractor Daniel Kubisty has pleaded guilty to federal charges of attempted arson in the Eastern District of Texas, according to U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.
Kubisty, who was arraigned today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith Guthrie, accepted $3,000 from Edward Jacobs to torch down a building at 3322 E. Fifth Street in Tyler that housed the “Add-Life Recovery Center” methadone clinic. The motive: to gain a competitive edge for Jacobs’ own “Methadone Clinic of East Texas.”
On March 19, 2012, Kubisty was apprehended by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) with a gasoline can filled with a soaked wick in his pickup truck. He faces a federal prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years.
Upon Kubisty’s arrest, Jacobs feared he would snitch on him. On June 1, 2012, Jacobs attempted to hire a hitman for $12,000 to silence Kubisty. ATF was all over it and nabbed Jacobs in the act. He too pleaded guilty to attempted arson and solicitation of murder for hire, facing up to 20 years in prison for each charge.
This harrowing tale of conspiracy and greed is currently being investigated by the ATF and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Noble.
