A Belle Fourche man was sentenced to five years in federal prison for attempting to receive child pornography.
According to Acting United States Attorney Dennis R. Holmes, Tyler Wayne Deel, 33, was convicted of Attempted Receipt of Child Pornography and sentenced on February 26, 2021, by U.S. District Court Judge Jeffrey L. Viken.
Deel resided in St. Onge, South Dakota, between August 2018 and November 2018, during which time he used his computer to connect and access websites and applications for ‘Tumblr,’ receiving and distributing digital files containing images of child pornography.
Many of the images of child pornography depicted young children. The investigation was conducted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Homeland Security, the Rapid City Police Department, and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case, and Deel was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
As part of his sentence, Deel was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund and will serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.
