Tyquan Raheem Bellamy, Methamphetamine and Fentanyl Trafficking, South Carolina 2022

A 30-year-old Sellers man will spend the next 15 years behind bars after pleading guilty to a string of serious drug crimes.

Tyquan Raheem Bellamy, 30, of Sellers, was sentenced to 180 months imprisonment, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. There is no parole in the federal system.

The evidence against Bellamy was overwhelming. On January 15, 2022, officers from the Latta Police Department pulled over a vehicle driven by Bellamy. As they approached the vehicle, the officers detected the unmistakable scent of marijuana emanating from inside. A search of the vehicle revealed a trash bag between Bellamy’s feet containing approximately 25 grams of marijuana divided amongst several baggies.

The search also turned up a loaded 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and two additional magazines, along with pills containing methamphetamine and fentanyl. The discovery of these illicit substances and firearms was the culmination of a thorough investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Latta Police Department, Florence County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The case is part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and community leaders to foster trust and legitimacy. The PSN strategy focuses on four core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Katherine Flynn is prosecuting the case, which has sent a clear message to those involved in the illicit drug trade: the consequences of getting caught are severe and long-lasting. Bellamy’s sentence serves as a testament to the dedication of law enforcement agencies and the importance of the PSN initiative in making our communities safer.

As the investigation and prosecution of Bellamy’s case demonstrate, the war on drugs is far from over. Law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to dismantle drug trafficking operations and bring those responsible to justice. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
