Tyrel Mack, 29, Charged with Assaulting Children at Shaw AFB Daycare
A federal indictment has been handed down against Tyrel Mack, a 29-year-old daycare worker at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. Mack is accused of physically assaulting four minor victims, all under the age of 5, on seven separate occasions in November 2025.
The indictment alleges that Mack worked in a classroom serving children from ages 3 to 5 and used his position of authority to commit the heinous crimes. The victims were subjected to kicks, hits, strikes, and intentional stepping on, according to the indictment.
Mack faces a maximum penalty of one year for each of the seven charges, totaling seven years in prison. The case was investigated by the U.S. Air Force Security Forces Squadron.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Scott Matthews and Elle E. Klein are prosecuting the case. The indictment serves as an accusation, and Mack is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
As a trusted member of the Shaw AFB community, Mack’s actions have left a trail of devastation in their wake. The victims and their families will undoubtedly face a long and difficult road to recovery.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to holding accountable those who abuse their power and harm the most vulnerable members of our society. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of our children.
