Tyrone Pennick, a 48-year-old man from Amherst, NY, has been sentenced to 26 years in prison for his role in a cocaine trafficking operation in Buffalo, NY.
The sentencing came after a federal jury convicted Pennick of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 500 grams or more of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 500 grams or more of cocaine, maintaining a drug premises for the purpose of manufacturing and distributing cocaine, and for committing drug felonies while on conditions of pre-trial release.
U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara handed down the 310-month prison sentence to Pennick, a decision that was met with relief from law enforcement officials who worked tirelessly to bring the defendant to justice.
The investigation into Pennick’s operation was a joint effort between the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the United States Probation Department.
On November 17, 2016, investigators from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office conducted surveillance on Pennick’s residence at 489 Emerson Drive in Amherst, where they observed a female leaving the residence carrying a tote bag containing suspected cocaine.
When investigators activated their emergency lights and conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle, Pennick was detained and the tote bag was seized, revealing two containers containing suspected cocaine. A subsequent search of Pennick’s residence uncovered a stash of evidence, including a metal press, digital scale, packaging material, and a large sum of cash hidden in the dishwasher.
The evidence collected during the investigation was a testament to the scope of Pennick’s operation, and the severity of the charges brought against him reflect the gravity of the crimes he committed.
Pennick’s sentencing serves as a reminder that law enforcement is committed to holding accountable those who engage in illicit activities that harm our communities.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel L. Violanti, who prosecuted the case, noted that Pennick’s actions were a threat to public safety and that his sentencing was a necessary step in protecting the community.
U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross praised the law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation, saying, “This case is a prime example of the tireless work of our law enforcement partners to keep our communities safe from those who would seek to profit from the sale of illegal narcotics.”
