Tyshone T. Overstreet, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, New Jersey 2017

A 21-year-old man from Irvington, New Jersey, is facing federal charges for allegedly possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Tyshone T. Overstreet, a.k.a. “Tata,” is charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Overstreet was arrested on May 12, 2017, and made his initial appearance in federal court on [no date was given in the source] before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Falk in Newark federal court, where he was detained.

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court, on March 3, 2017, law enforcement officers attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop of a car in which Overstreet was a passenger.

Before the car came to a complete stop, Overstreet jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, throwing an object that was later recovered and determined to be a .40 caliber Glock Model 22 handgun.

The felon in possession of a firearm charge carries a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Acting U.S. Attorney Fitzpatrick credited FBI special agents, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Timothy Gallagher, with the investigation, and thanked the Newark Department of Public Safety, under the direction of Director Anthony F. Ambrose, and the Irvington Police Department, under the direction of Director Tracy Bowers, for their assistance.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Graves of the U.S. Attorney’s Office Criminal Division in Newark.

The charge and allegations contained in the complaint are merely accusations and the defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
