WASHINGTON, D.C. – A Bowie, Maryland man has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon in connection with his arrest in Northwest Washington, D.C.
According to court documents, on August 17, 2025, at around midnight, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers were on patrol in the U Street corridor when they noticed 29-year-old Tyzell Myrick allegedly carrying a firearm in his waistband.
Myrick is prohibited from possession of a firearm and ammunition due to a prior 2018 conviction for Hobbs Act robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.
The MPD officers recovered a Glock 22 .40 caliber pistol, loaded with one round in the chamber and an additional 20 rounds in the magazine, during the arrest.
This prosecution comes as part of the ‘Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful’ initiative, which is surging resources to reduce violent crime in the District of Columbia. The initiative was created to address gun violence in the District, prioritize federal firearms violations, pursue tougher penalties for offenders, and seek detention for federal firearms violators.
The case is being investigated by the ATF Washington Field Office and the MPD, with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney David B. Liss prosecuting the case.
Tyzell Myrick is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. An indictment is merely an allegation. The case number is 25cr267.
