TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – A Desperate Bid to Combat Addiction

Lawrence Keefe, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, has announced that communities across northern Florida are eligible to apply for a portion of more than $163 million in federal grants to help address the nation’s addiction crisis.

According to Keefe, the funding is aimed at providing innovative and diverse solutions to combat substance addiction, which he says is a scourge on every community in northern Florida. The grants are made available through the Office of Justice Programs, the federal government’s leading source of public safety funding and crime victim assistance.

Funding opportunities currently open include the Adult Drug Court and Veterans Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program, the Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Site-based Program, the Enhancing Community Responses to America’s Addiction Crisis: Serving Our Youngest Crime Victims program, and several others.

The funding is a much-needed boost to communities struggling to combat the addiction crisis. According to Katharine T. Sullivan, Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Justice Programs, the administration is committed to addressing the nation’s addiction crisis, which is among the top domestic priorities.

The grants are available for a range of activities and services, including programs designed to prevent overdose deaths and break the cycle of addiction and crime. The application deadlines vary, but interested parties are advised to visit the Office of Justice Programs website for more information.

Lawrence Keefe emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of addiction, saying, ‘So much of the criminal activity in Northern Florida – from its urban centers to the most rural areas – can be traced back to addiction.’ He believes that the grants available to help can make a meaningful impact across the District.

The funding is a critical step in the fight against addiction, and we will be closely monitoring the progress of these initiatives in the coming months. In the meantime, we urge communities to take advantage of this opportunity to apply for the grants and work towards finding solutions to this devastating crisis.
