Defendant Accused of Interfering with the Moreland Commission

U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara has been the subject of an investigation into allegations of interfering with the operation of the Moreland Commission and its premature closing.

After a thorough investigation, this Office has concluded that, absent any additional proof that may develop, there is insufficient evidence to prove a federal crime.

However, we continue to have active investigations related to substantive inquiries that were being conducted by the Moreland Commission at the time of its closure.

The Moreland Commission was established to investigate and prosecute public corruption and other crimes in the state of New York.

The investigation into U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara began in 2014, after allegations surfaced that he was interfering with the commission’s work.

Despite the lack of evidence, the investigation has led to a deeper look into the commission’s work and the potential for corruption within the state’s government.

The outcome of this case is a reminder that the pursuit of justice is ongoing, and that even those in positions of power can be held accountable for their actions.
