U.S. Election Laws Monitored in Michigan, 2024

The U.S. government is cracking down on election law violations in Michigan. In a move to ensure equal access to the polls, the U.S. will be monitoring the compliance with federal election laws in several communities in western Michigan during the August 5 primary elections.

The monitoring will take place in Allegan County, specifically in Clyde Township and the city of Fennville, as well as in Van Buren County, where Covert Township will be under scrutiny.

The U.S. is committed to enforcing federal election laws that protect every citizen’s right to vote. To that end, the Civil Rights Division, in collaboration with the U.S. Attorney’s Offices, will be working to ensure that the laws are followed, including the Voting Rights Act, the National Voter Registration Act, the Help America Vote Act, and the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act.

The Division of Civil Rights will be sending observers from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, as authorized by a federal court order. These observers will be monitoring the elections to ensure that all citizens have an equal opportunity to participate.

If you suspect any election law violations, you can report them using the online form from the Civil Rights Division at Comuníquese con la División de Derechos Civiles | Departamento de Justicia (justice.gov) (available in Spanish) or by calling (800) 253-3931.
