A 32-year-old Mexican national has been arrested and charged with making false statements during multiple attempts to purchase firearms in western Kentucky.
According to a federal criminal complaint, Ulises Macario Gonzaga-Guillen, a citizen of Mexico, made multiple false statements during attempts to purchase firearms from licensed dealers between January 15 and February 16, 2025, in McCracken and Marshall Counties, Kentucky.
Gonzaga-Guillen was also accused of falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen during one of the attempted purchases. However, he was unable to successfully purchase a firearm from any of the involved dealers.
The case is being investigated by the ATF Paducah Satellite Office and the HSI Paducah Office. Gonzaga-Guillen was taken into federal custody this week and will make his initial appearance before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky on April 28, 2025.
If convicted on the charges in the complaint, Gonzaga-Guillen faces a maximum sentence of 43 years in prison. However, there is no parole in the federal system, and a federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth A. Hancock, Chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Paducah Branch Office, is prosecuting the case as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that aims to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
Gonzaga-Guillen was identified as the defendant, and his real full name appears in the source. The exact criminal charges include making false statements during multiple attempts to purchase firearms and falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen. The city and state involved are Paducah, Kentucky, and the exact date of the crime was between January 15 and February 16, 2025.
The case is ongoing, and Gonzaga-Guillen will face a maximum sentence of 43 years in prison if convicted.
