United States Attorney’s Office, Narcotic Drug Distribution, Vermont 2016

Rutland, VT – In a major blow to the city’s narcotic drug trade, three residences on Park Avenue have been forfeited to the government and will be converted into owner-occupied housing.

According to a press conference held on October 31, 2016, the United States Attorney’s Office announced the completion of an agreement to forfeit the properties based on significant narcotic drug distribution activity occurring at these addresses.

The properties, located at three separate addresses on Park Avenue, were transferred to NeighborWorks of Western Vermont under the terms of the agreement. NeighborWorks will renovate the properties and sell them with the condition that the purchaser maintain them as owner-occupied single-family residences, duplexes, or condominium residential units.

The forfeited properties were a result of a thorough investigation by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including the United States Marshal’s Office, the Rutland City Police Department, and the Vermont State Police (Narcotics Investigation Unit).

Representatives from the City of Rutland, NeighborWorks of Western Vermont, and Project Vision were also present at the press conference, which was held at 11:00 a.m. on October 31, 2016.

The agreement marks a significant step forward in the fight against narcotic drug distribution in Rutland and sends a strong message to those involved in the trade that their actions will not be tolerated.
