UPS Employees Busted in Cocaine Trafficking Bust
McALLEN, Texas – In a shocking turn of events, five UPS employees have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine. The alleged crime took place on multiple occasions between March 24 through Oct. 3, 2022.
The five individuals, Orlando Candelario Almanza, 49, Edinburg; Fidencio Salinas Jr., 51, Pharr; Javier Enrique Mendoza, 48, Pharr; Jose Felipe Lozano, 58, Edinburg; and Enrique Bernardo Gamez, 45, Hidalgo, are set to face life in prison and a possible $10 million fine if convicted.
According to the indictment, Salinas and Almanza are both alleged to be UPS employees who knowingly transported packages of cocaine. Mendoza allegedly provided the packages of cocaine to UPS employees, while Lozano allegedly provided fraudulent labels for the packages. Gamez stored the cocaine at his residence prior to transport, according to the charges.
Law enforcement seized approximately 60 kilograms of cocaine, which the individuals allegedly trafficked.
An indictment is a formal accusation of criminal conduct, not evidence. A defendant is presumed innocent unless convicted through due process of law.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Hidalgo County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force, and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Garcia is prosecuting the case.
