Urban Oshea, II, Counterfeit Securities, South Carolina 2016

Columbia, SC – In a shocking turn of events, Urban Oshea, II, a 48-year-old Florence man, and Madgelyn Kirton, a 31-year-old Myrtle Beach woman, have pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Manufacture and Pass Counterfeit Securities in federal court in Florence, South Carolina.

According to court documents, the duo, along with other co-conspirators, was involved in a massive counterfeiting operation, manufacturing and passing counterfeit checks of organizations from August 2015 to January 2016.

The evidence presented in court revealed that the co-conspirators would steal genuine bank account and routing numbers from checks they found in mailboxes in Horry and Georgetown Counties, and then use those numbers to create counterfeit checks.

Using fraudulent driver’s licenses bearing their photographs but in other persons’ names, the defendants would pass the counterfeit checks at various businesses, purchasing merchandise and then exchanging it for cash at another store in the same chain.

United States Attorney Beth Drake stated that the maximum penalty for the defendants could be imprisonment for 5 years and/or a fine of $250,000, plus a special assessment of $100.

The case was investigated by agents of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, with Assistant United States Attorney A. Bradley Parham handling the case.
