Rasheed Mingues, a 44-year-old Utica area resident with ties to New York City, is headed for a lengthy stint behind bars after pleading guilty to possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and gun offenses.
According to federal authorities, Mingues admitted to selling over 100 grams of methamphetamine and more than 30 grams of fentanyl in the Utica area between April and October 2022. The suspect also admitted to possessing over 700 grams of fentanyl, over 700 grams of methamphetamine, and over 100 grams of cocaine with the intent to distribute on December 9, 2022. Mingues was caught with a loaded 9mm handgun in the same bag as the drugs, a move punishable by law due to his prior felony conviction.
The DEA and New York State Police are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Utica Police Department, Syracuse Police Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica N. Carbone and Benjamin Gillis are prosecuting the case, which is now set for sentencing on August 23, 2024, in Syracuse. Mingues faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life, as well as a fine of up to $10,000,000 and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.
