James Cargill, Methamphetamine Trafficking and Firearm Possession, …

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: James Cargill, the alleged drug kingpin of Vacaville, California, is staring down a potential life sentence after being indicted on four counts related to methamphetamine and firearm possession.

Cargill, 44, was hit with an intense federal grand jury indictment that includes two charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, as well as charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. Acting U.S. Attorney Kimberly A. Sanchez broke the news.

According to court documents, Cargill’s arrest in January 2025 was a doozy. He was caught with over 500 grams of methamphetamine mixed with other substances, along with a loaded semi-automatic pistol. His prior felony convictions for burglary, evading police officers, and firearm possession left him banned from possessing firearms or ammunition. But that didn’t stop Cargill.

After his release from custody, the authorities caught Cargill again in May 2025. This time, he was found with methamphetamine and another loaded semi-automatic pistol. The Vacaville Police Department, Fairfield Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were all involved in this investigation.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Campbell is now on Cargill’s case. If convicted, the defendant faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, with a maximum of life imprisonment and a fine reaching $10 million. However, the final sentence will be determined by the court after considering all applicable factors and Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

The charges against Cargill are mere allegations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
