Miami – Marco Orlando Vado, a 66-year-old Nicaraguan national, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States after being removed. The sentence comes as a consequence of Vado’s brazen attempt to return despite prior removal and a lengthy criminal history.
Senior U.S. District Judge Paul C. Huck handed down the 60-month term on August 26, with this sentence to run consecutive to another 72-month term for violating probation in a drug trafficking case. This latter term was imposed in June 2024 in Broward County after Vado pleaded guilty in Miami-Dade County to attempted sexual battery of a minor under 12.
According to court records, the story of Vado’s transgression began in November 2009 when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) intercepted him following his conviction for trafficking more than 400 grams of cocaine. Sentenced to six years of probation, he was deported to Nicaragua on December 23, 2009.
However, Vado’s criminal journey did not end there. On April 22, 2022, the North Miami Beach Police Department arrested him for attempted sexual battery against a minor under 12, marking his second encounter with law enforcement in the U.S. following his removal.
The announcement of Vado’s sentence was made by U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones for the Southern District of Florida and Field Officer Director Garrett Ripa of the ICE Enforcement Removal Operations (ERO), Miami Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joseph A. Cooley prosecuted the case.
