Peter Brimelow, Siphoning Charitable Funds, New York 2025

New York – The VDARE Foundation (VDARE) and its founders Peter and Lydia Brimelow are facing a lawsuit from Attorney General Letitia James for reportedly siphoning at least $2 million in charitable funds for personal use.

The complaint, filed on September 3, 2025, alleges that the Brimelows diverted millions of dollars from VDARE to enrich themselves and their families. The organization, which was established as a New York charity in 1999, was found to have failed to file required financial documents, submitted false certifications, and continued fundraising despite falsely claiming it had shut down.

According to the Attorney General’s Office, an investigation revealed that in 2020, the Brimelows used $1.4 million of VDARE funds to purchase a medieval-style castle in West Virginia, which they then transferred to their own companies and arranged a rent-back scheme with. They also pledged all of VDARE’s assets as collateral for a loan from a company managed by Lydia’s father.

Attorney General James is seeking the recovery of monetary damages, the removal of the Brimelows from managing any New York charity, and the dissolution of the VDARE Foundation. ‘Charities are intended to serve the public, not to bankroll castles or pad personal fortunes,’ said Attorney General James.

The investigation into VDARE was marred by attempts to obstruct justice, including ignoring subpoenas, withholding records, and resisting court orders. The Brimelows have been held in contempt of court twice and owe tens of thousands in court fines.
