DALLAS, Texas – A bank robber known as the ‘Checkbook Bandit’ has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison after a string of five bank robberies in Desoto, Texas.
The ‘Checkbook Bandit’ used a checkbook registry to display demand notes during the robberies. In a shocking turn of events, Victor Lemond Williams, 43, of Dallas, was sentenced to 90 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade. Williams has been in custody since his arrest in January 2012.
The ‘Checkbook Bandit’ robbed five banks in Desoto, Texas, between September and January of 2012. The banks targeted included Chase Bank and Bank of America.
The case was investigated by the Desoto Police and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Taly Haffar was in charge of the prosecution.
Williams pleaded guilty to an indictment charging five counts of bank robbery. He admitted to committing the robberies at the following locations:
- Chase Bank, 721 W. Beltline Road, Desoto, Texas on September 19, 2011.
- Chase Bank, 721 W. Beltline Road, Desoto, Texas on December 5, 2011.
- Chase Bank, 721 W. Beltline Road, Desoto, Texas on December 23, 2011.
- Bank of America, 931 W. Beltline Road, Desoto, Texas on September 22, 2011.
- Bank of America, 931 W. Beltline Road, Desoto, Texas on January 3, 2012.
The defendant has been in custody since his arrest in January 2012. His sentence includes 90 months in federal prison.
U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña made the announcement today.
