Artesia, New Mexico – Victor R. Castillo, 37, of Artesia, New Mexico, has been sentenced to 92 months in prison for violating federal firearms laws. Castillo will serve three years on supervised release after his incarceration.

Castillo was arrested on September 1, 2015, on an indictment charging him with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of an unregistered firearm on January 28, 2015, in Eddy County, New Mexico.

The Pecos Valley Drug Task Force is comprised of officers from the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, Carlsbad Police Department, and Artesia Police Department and is part of the HIDTA Region VI Drug Task Force.

This case was prosecuted under a federal anti-violence initiative that targets “the worst of the worst” offenders for federal prosecution. The U.S. Attorney’s Office and federal law enforcement agencies work with New Mexico’s District Attorneys and state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to target violent or repeat offenders primarily based on their prior criminal convictions for federal prosecution with the goal of removing repeat offenders from communities in New Mexico for as long as possible.
