A bitter dispute is brewing in the Massachusetts coal mines, threatening to cripple the state’s war effort. The Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM), a powerful group of manufacturers, has sent a scathing statement to the Massachusetts delegation in Congress, denouncing the recent settlement of the coal mine strike as a ‘muddling’ that has left the industry in a state of turmoil. The AIM claims that the settlement, which was brokered by the War Labor Board, is nothing more than a temporary truce until October 31, and that without a formal contract between miners and operators, the entire matter remains in a state of chaos.
