Waterloo, Iowa – A brazen criminal from Waterloo has been handed a tough federal sentence for his illegal possession of a firearm. Patrelle Jose Green-Bowman, 21, was sentenced to more than six years in federal prison after being found guilty by a jury of possessing a loaded sawed-off shotgun.
The court heard evidence that on August 2, 2013, officers from the Waterloo Police Department discovered Green-Bowman in the backseat of a parked car at an apartment complex. A loaded sawed-off shotgun was wrapped in his coat and found on the seat directly behind him.
United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced Green-Bowman to 78 months’ imprisonment, along with a special assessment fee of $200. Following his prison term, he will be required to serve a three-year supervised release period without parole in the federal system.
In Cedar Rapids, Green-Bowman is currently being held by the United States Marshal’s Service until transport to a federal prison can be arranged.
The case against Green-Bowman was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dan Chatham and investigated by both the Waterloo Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
