A Watertown man has been sentenced for his role in a pair of Lacey Act Violations and Unlawful Taking of Migratory Birds incidents that occurred in 2008 and 2009.
Roger Meyer, 53, was sentenced to two years of unsupervised probation and was ordered to pay $550 in restitution to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, a $3,000 fine, and $35 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The conviction stems from Meyer’s operation of Meyer Guide Service, where he guided paying clients on duck hunts on two separate occasions in 2008 and 2009.
During these hunts, Meyer allowed and encouraged the hunters to exceed their daily limit of ducks.
The ducks were then transported in violation of federal law, leading to Meyer’s Lacey Act Violations.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges.
U.S. Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes presided over Meyer’s sentencing hearing on February 4, 2014.
Meyer was also barred from hunting or guiding for a period of two years.
