Wayne J. Jones, II, Gun and Ammunition Possession, Iowa 2017

In a shocking case, Wayne J. Jones, II, a 38-year-old man from Waterloo, Iowa, has pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon and unlawful drug user. Jones entered his plea of guilty yesterday in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.

The one-count indictment filed on August 9, 2017, alleges that, on or about April 12, 2017, Jones possessed a 9mm handgun, several rounds of hollow point ammunition, and several rounds of 20-gauge shotgun ammunition. At the plea hearing yesterday, Jones admitted those items were seized from his apartment and possession pursuant to a federal search warrant. Jones also admitted he had a prior felony conviction and was an unlawful user of marijuana.

According to court documents, Jones faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment.

Jones is currently in the custody of the United States Marshals. A sentencing date has not yet been set. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Richard L. Murphy and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation revealed that Jones had a long history of run-ins with the law, including a prior felony conviction. Despite this, he continued to possess firearms and ammunition, putting himself and others at risk.

Jones’s guilty plea marks a significant blow to his freedom and a reminder of the consequences of breaking the law. As the investigation continues, it is clear that Jones will face the full force of the law for his crimes.

The case is a sobering reminder of the importance of gun safety and the need for convicted felons and unlawful drug users to be held accountable for their actions.
