Stuart Bardan, a 37-year-old man from Weiser, Idaho, was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for possession and distribution of child pornography, marking another grim conviction in the federal crackdown on online child exploitation.
Court records show the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force launched an investigation in March 2020 after receiving two CyberTips from Yahoo via the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The tips traced back to a Yahoo account used by Bardan between February 13, 2018, and March 11, 2020, during which time child pornography was repeatedly uploaded.
Investigators obtained a warrant to search the Yahoo account and discovered multiple images of child pornography, including files showing prepubescent minors engaged in sexual acts. Evidence further revealed that Bardan used the same email account to share these illicit files with others, escalating the severity of the charges.
On July 9, 2020, federal agents executed a search warrant at Bardan’s Weiser residence. His cellphone was seized and found to contain numerous files of child pornography. During questioning, Bardan admitted to distributing the material and actively searching for more child sexual abuse content online.
Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Nye handed down the 63-month sentence and ordered Bardan to serve ten years of supervised release upon his release. He was also ordered to forfeit the cellphone used in the crimes. As a convicted sex offender, Bardan must now register for life under federal requirements.
Acting U.S. Attorney Rafael M. Gonzalez, Jr., of the District of Idaho, announced the sentencing and credited the collaborative work of the Idaho ICAC Task Force, United States Postal Inspection Service, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
