Omaha Man Sentenced for Conspiracy to Sex Traffic a Minor

Thomas Holbert, 32, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to 235 months’ imprisonment in federal court in Omaha for Conspiracy to Sex Traffic a Minor.

According to the investigation, Holbert picked up two Omaha foster children, aged 16 and 17, and brought them to a hotel where he posted online advertisements promoting the minors for commercial sex acts. Both victims then engaged in sex acts for money with Holbert and others receiving financial proceeds from those acts.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. Led by United States Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, the Omaha Police Department, and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office.

Holbert will serve 5 years of supervised release after his release from prison and will be required to register as a sex offender. There is no parole in the federal prison system.

This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of child sex trafficking and the importance of continued efforts to combat this heinous crime.
