MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Michael Wayne Lambert, 56, of Weleetka, Oklahoma, is facing a lifetime behind bars after a federal jury found him guilty of a cold-blooded murder in Okfuskee County. The verdict, delivered after a four-day trial, paints a picture of premeditated violence that left a victim dead on the steps of an Okemah apartment complex.
The jury didn’t hesitate. Lambert was convicted on three serious federal charges: Murder in Indian Country, a crime carrying a potential life sentence and a $250,000.00 fine; Use, Carry, Brandish and Discharge of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence, punishable by up to ten years and another $250,000.00 fine; and Causing the Death of a Person in the Course of a Violation of Title 18 U.S.C. § 924(c), which also carries a potential life sentence and a $250,000.00 fine. The sheer weight of the charges underscores the brutality of the crime.
Testimony revealed that on June 30, 2024, Lambert allegedly executed the victim with “premeditation and malice aforethought,” according to prosecutors. The government presented evidence showing Lambert repeatedly shot the victim on the apartment stairs before making a hasty escape. The location is critical: the crime occurred within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation in Okfuskee County, placing it under federal jurisdiction.
The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Okemah Police Department, and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, pieced together a damning case against Lambert. The trial, which began September 8, 2025, and concluded September 11, 2025, in front of Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White, clearly convinced the jury of Lambert’s guilt. The evidence spoke for itself.
Following the guilty verdicts, Judge White ordered a presentence report to be completed. Lambert will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshals until sentencing, a date which will be determined after the report is finalized. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lewis M.
