Florida Scammer Sentenced to Prison for Repeat Telemarketing Offense
A 30-year-old scammer from Florida has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for violating his supervised release on a prior telemarketing fraud conviction, authorities announced today.
Wesley Scott Aldred, of Kissimmee, Florida, was previously sentenced in 2015 for participating in a timeshare resale fraud scam known as Premier Timeshare Solutions, which victimized timeshare owners all over the country, including southern Illinois.
While he was on supervised release for that conviction, Aldred was caught engaging in a similar telemarketing fraud scam targeting timeshare owners.
The scam, which was uncovered by the St. Louis Field Office of the Chicago Division of the United States Postal Inspection Service with assistance from the Florida Attorney General’s Office and the Florida Department of Agriculture, involved targeting timeshare owners with promises of resale services.
On June 7, 2018, United States District Judge Nancy J. Rosenstengel revoked Aldred’s supervised release and ordered him to serve 21 months in federal prison, to be followed by an additional 39 months of supervised release. The sentence imposed by the court was the maximum term recommended by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Ranley R. Killian and Scott A. Verseman.
Aldred’s sentencing is a significant victory for the victims of his scams, who were targeted by him through repeated telemarketing calls. The sentencing also serves as a warning to others who engage in similar scams, that they will be caught and brought to justice.
