CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – In a striking blow against illegal firearms, Carl David Davis, 32, of Hepzibah, West Virginia, was sentenced today to a staggering 63 months behind bars for violating firearm laws, announced United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II.
Davis, who pleaded guilty in June 2021, admitted to the “Possession of an Explosive by a Prohibited Person” and “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.” The charges stemmed from incidents in November 2018 and October 2020 where he was caught with two electric explosive detonators, commonly known as blasting caps, and a .22 caliber rifle in Harrison County.
Under the harsh judgment, Davis must forfeit a vast arsenal including a 9mm pistol, ammunition for various calibers, and a shotgun shell. The forfeiture alone underscores the severity of his transgressions against firearm laws.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon S. Flower led the prosecution on behalf of the government, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation that ultimately led to Davis’s conviction.
The case was presided over by U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh, ensuring justice was served for the community of Harrison County.
This sentence serves as a chilling reminder of the consequences faced by those who flout firearm laws in West Virginia, reflecting the ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and uphold the rule of law.
