Westerville, Ohio – Christopher M. Sammons, 26, is facing federal charges for the sexual exploitation of a five-year-old child, court records reveal. The arrest marks the culmination of a months-long undercover operation led by the FBI and local law enforcement, exposing a harrowing pattern of abuse and digital trafficking in child pornography.
Sammons is scheduled for arraignment at 2:30 p.m. before Chief U.S. District Judge Edmund A. Sargus, Jr. in Columbus. He was initially charged by criminal complaint on April 5, transferred to federal custody on April 8, and formally indicted by a grand jury on April 23.
The investigation began March 11 when an undercover FBI agent in Little Rock, Arkansas, received a disturbing message from Sammons expressing sexual interest in children. During recorded conversations, Sammons allegedly urged the agent to ‘just make some home made stuff’ and offered to ‘share her next time if you’re interested in a long term thing’ — referencing the abuse of a six-year-old victim.
According to an affidavit, Sammons admitted to a task force officer that he had been sexually abusing the child for over a year. He reportedly sent child pornography files to the undercover agent and discussed exchanging videos of themselves sexually abusing minors, escalating the severity of the charges.
The indictment charges Sammons with one count of sexually exploiting a minor (15 to 30 years in prison), two counts of making a notice for child pornography (15 to 30 years each), and one count of distributing child pornography (five to 20 years). All charges are federal and carry the possibility of life-altering prison time.
Benjamin C. Glassman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, praised the work of the FBI’s Crimes Against Children Task Force, Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Heather A. Hill and Jennifer M. Rausch of the Franklin County Special Victim’s Unit. The case underscores the growing reach of digital investigations in combating child exploitation. Sammons remains in custody; a trial date has not yet been set.
