Aaron M. Belcher, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Kansas 2012

Aaron M. Belcher, 33, of Wichita, Kansas, was sentenced to 63 months in federal prison for a firearm violation, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said.

Belcher is already serving time in state prison for a 2013 case in which he shot at police who were chasing him from the scene of a burglary, in which he was involved. This federal sentence will be served consecutively to the sentence in the state case.

The federal case stemmed from a high-speed chase on October 29, 2012, when Belcher was driving a stolen Corvette and a Wichita police officer tried to pull him over. After the chase, Belcher pulled into a driveway in the 100 block of Alexander in Haysville.

When the homeowner, who had heard the police sirens, confronted Belcher, a struggle ensued and he was eventually wrestled to the ground and held until police arrived. The police found ammunition in the stolen car.

Belcher pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of ammunition following a felony conviction. In his plea, he admitted to the crime. He is currently serving time in state prison for his role in the 2013 burglary and shooting at police.

U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the Wichita Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster for their work on the case.

Belcher’s federal sentence is a harsh reminder that those who engage in violent crime will be held accountable for their actions. His consecutive prison sentences demonstrate that the justice system will not tolerate such behavior.
