Cody McCormick, Threat to President, Kansas 2024

A Wichita man is headed to prison after making deadly threats against President Joe Biden.

Cody McCormick, 28, of Wichita, Kansas, was sentenced to 21 months in prison for making a threat against the President of the United States. McCormick pleaded guilty to one count of making a threat against the President.

According to court documents, McCormick sent a Facebook message to a local television station in April 2023 detailing his intention to murder President Biden. The message read, in part, ‘I will get a Greyhound bus ticket and go and shoot him.’

U.S. Secret Service agents interviewed McCormick, who told them that if given the opportunity, he would ‘force him (POTUS) to step down from office’ and would ‘kidnap him.’ McCormick also stated, ‘My intent is to kill Joe Biden if I don’t get the help I need.’

The U.S. Secret Service and the Wichita Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Matt Treaster prosecuted the case.

McCormick’s sentence is a direct result of his admission to making the threats and his subsequent interview with Secret Service agents. The sentence is a significant blow to those who would seek to harm the President and his family.

The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to protecting the President and ensuring public safety.
