Meth Kingpin Busted in Wichita

A California truck driver has been indicted on a federal charge of transporting 15 pounds of methamphetamine to Wichita, Kansas.

Arnoldo Perez-Ortega, 33, of Fontana, California, is charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, according to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.

According to court documents, police stopped Perez-Ortega’s truck on March 6, 2015, near I-235 and Central. In the truck, officers found approximately 15.75 pounds of methamphetamine.

“If convicted, he faces a penalty of not less than 10 years and a fine up to $250,000,” Grissom said.

The investigation was led by the Wichita Police Department, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Anderson is prosecuting the case.

Perez-Ortega’s indictment comes as part of a series of recent indictments in Kansas. Three other individuals have been charged with various crimes, including unlawful possession of a firearm and re-entering the United States after being deported.

Scott L. Kemble, 44, who is being held in the Shawnee County Jail, is charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm following a felony conviction. The crime is alleged to have occurred on February 3, 2016, in Shawnee County, Kansas.

Kyler D. Hubert, 24, of Topeka, Kansas, is charged with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm following a felony conviction. The crime is alleged to have occurred on February 6, 2016, in Topeka, Kansas.

Maximo Corral-Garcia, 38, a citizen of Mexico, is charged with unlawfully re-entering the United States after being deported. He was found on March 4, 2016, in Butler County, Kansas.

In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictments merely contain allegations of criminal conduct.”}
