Grimy Times Exposes: Wilfredo Sanchez, a 21-year-old man from Rochester, NY, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison and five years supervised release for his involvement in armed drug trafficking.
According to court documents, on May 18, 2016, two Rochester Police officers observed Sanchez’s vehicle pull away from the curb without signaling, violating New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. The officers stopped the car and, upon discovering marijuana inside, arrested Sanchez and searched his person. They found $1,660.00 and a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number.
During the search, Sanchez revealed that he had more drugs on him. A zip lock bag containing approximately 10 grams of heroin was recovered from his pants.
The sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Rochester Police Department, under the direction of Chief Michael Ciminelli, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Ashan Benedict, New York Field Division.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Moynihan handled the case and stated that the evidence collected during the investigation led to Sanchez’s conviction.
Sanchez’s sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of engaging in armed drug trafficking. As a community, we must work together to prevent such crimes and keep our streets safe.
