Sioux City, IA – In a shocking turn of events, a local man has been sent back to federal prison for violating the terms of his supervised release. William Sun, 59, from Sioux City, Iowa, was sentenced to 27 months in federal prison after a hearing was held regarding his violations.
Evidence at the revocation hearing showed that Sun had failed to report to U.S. Probation within 72 hours, traveled outside the jurisdiction without prior approval, failed to comply with substance abuse treatment, and failed to follow U.S. Probation instructions. These egregious actions are a clear indication of Sun’s disregard for the law and his commitment to a life of crime.
Sun was previously sentenced to federal prison in 2013, to 120 months’ imprisonment for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, distribution of methamphetamine within 1000 feet of a protected location, and distribution of methamphetamine. This was not Sun’s first brush with the law, and it is clear that he has a long history of involvement in illicit activities.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn S. Wehde and investigated by the U.S. Probation Office. Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand presided over the hearing and handed down the sentence. Sun is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison.
