Devon Frazier, Methamphetamine and Fentanyl Trafficking, Iowa 2026

Devon Frazier, a 26-year-old from Chicago, Illinois, has been sentenced to more than 15 years in federal prison for his involvement in methamphetamine and fentanyl trafficking in Iowa.

On February 8, 2023, Frazier distributed over 111 grams of ice methamphetamine to another individual. Less than a week later, on February 13, 2023, Frazier distributed 282 grams of purported methamphetamine to another individual. However, laboratory testing revealed that the purported methamphetamine was actually sea salt.

Following the transaction, officers stopped a car occupied by Frazier and arrested him. While being transported to the Linn County Correctional Center, Frazier dropped a baggie of 362 pills containing fentanyl onto the floorboard of the patrol car. Officers later recovered the baggie.

Further evidence presented at the sentencing hearing showed that on March 3, 2023, Frazier distributed a purported Xanax pill to a 19-year-old female. However, the pill contained fentanyl and caused the young woman to suffer a fentanyl-related overdose and die on March 4, 2023.

Following the overdose, Frazier threatened to kill individuals he believed were cooperating with law enforcement. He was subsequently sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 190 months’ imprisonment in federal prison. Frazier was also ordered to serve a five-year term of supervised release after completing his prison sentence.

Frazier is currently being held in the custody of the United States Marshals until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dillan Edwards and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Johnson County Drug Enforcement Task Force.
