Mills County Man Gets 135 Months for Methamphetamine Manufacturing

Council Bluffs, IA – In a harsh blow to Iowa’s methamphetamine trade, Adam Michael Blackman, a 40-year-old Mills County resident, was sentenced to 135 months in prison for manufacturing the deadly drug. United States Attorney Nicholas A. Klinefeldt announced the sentence, which also includes an eight-year term of supervised release following Blackman’s incarceration.

On January 9, 2013, Blackman pleaded guilty to manufacturing at least five grams of methamphetamine in Hamburg, Iowa. This charge stemmed from a joint investigation by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the Mills County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement into the manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamine by Blackman.

According to officials, the investigation began on May 1, 2012, when the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office discovered an active methamphetamine manufacturing operation in an apartment building in Hamburg, Iowa. Blackman and several others were found at the location of the manufacturing operation. Blackman admitted to manufacturing methamphetamine when investigators arrived.

The harsh sentence is a testament to the gravity of methamphetamine manufacturing. This highly addictive and destructive drug has ravaged communities across the country, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, the Mills County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement are to be commended for their tireless efforts in bringing Blackman to justice.

Blackman’s sentence serves as a warning to those involved in the methamphetamine trade: the consequences of manufacturing and distributing this deadly drug are severe and long-lasting. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa has demonstrated its commitment to holding accountable those who perpetuate this scourge on our communities.
