BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – On June 15, 2011, William Sykes, 29, of Welch, West Virginia, sold crack cocaine to a confidential informant in front of his residence.
The sale of crack cocaine, a highly addictive and potent form of cocaine, is a serious offense that can have devastating consequences for individuals and communities.
Sykes admitted to the crime and pleaded guilty to distributing crack cocaine, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine.
The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Southern Regional Drug Task Force.
Assistant United States Attorney John J. Frail is handling the prosecution.
Sykes is scheduled to be sentenced on June 25, 2015.
The guilty plea serves as a reminder that the distribution of crack cocaine will not be tolerated in our communities.
