Convicted sex offender William Townley, 56, of Peterborough, New Hampshire, has been sentenced for failure to register as required by federal law.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Townley knowingly failed to register as a sex offender in Indiana and New Hampshire after traveling to those states from New Hampshire in January 2014.
The court heard that Townley remained in Indiana from March 2014 through September 2014 and made no effort to register with the authorities.
Townley’s case was investigated by the Peterborough Police Department and the United States Marshals Service. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Georgiana Konesky.
Townley was arrested on June 30, 2015, and was subsequently sentenced to time served and five years of supervised release.
Townley is required to register for life under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).
The U.S. Attorney’s Office commended the efforts of the Peterborough Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service for their role in the case.
