LONDON, Ky. – In a shocking turn of events, Willie Combs has been sentenced to 108 months in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm following his prior felony convictions.
The charges against Combs stem from an incident on May 22, 2017, during which he brandished a loaded SKS 7.62×39 caliber rifle at another individual during an argument. Combs was prohibited by federal law from possessing a firearm due to his three prior felony convictions, including a federal conviction for possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Combs pleaded guilty to the firearms charges in May of 2018. Under federal law, Combs must serve 85 percent of his prison sentence. Upon his release, he will be under the supervision of the United States Probation Office.
The investigation into Combs’ firearm possession was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Kentucky State Police, and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky announced the sentencing, with Robert M. Duncan, Jr., United States Attorney, Stuart Lowrey, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Special Agent in Charge, and Richard Sanders, Kentucky State Police Commissioner, making the joint announcement.
Assistant United States Attorney Jason D. Parman represented the United States in the case. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.
