Grimy Times Exclusive: Twice Convicted Felon Pleads Guilty to New Gun Charge
In a shocking turn of events, Willis Bowles, a 36-year-old resident of Geneva, New York, has pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm. The maximum penalty for this crime is 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The investigation began on June 23, 2023, when the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Bowles’ Geneva residence. During the search, investigators seized a loaded Smith and Wesson rifle. A high capacity 30 round magazine, containing 22 rounds of ammunition, was also seized.
This is not Bowles’ first run-in with the law. In 2006 and 2007, he was convicted of gun felonies in the State of Florida, rendering him legally prohibited from possessing a firearm. Despite this, Bowles chose to ignore the law and possess a loaded firearm, putting himself and others at risk.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Everardo A. Rodriguez, who is handling the case, stated that the plea is a result of an investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff David Cirencione, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge John B. DeVito, New York Field Division, and the Geneva Police Department, under the direction of Chief Matt Colton.
Bowles is scheduled to be sentenced on June 10, 2024, before Chief U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford. It remains to be seen what punishment Bowles will face for his actions, but one thing is certain: he has shown a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of those around him.
As Grimy Times continues to investigate this story, we will provide updates on Bowles’ sentencing and any other relevant information. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
