Windsor, CT – In a stunning turn of events, Andre O. Johnson, a 28-year-old resident of Windsor, has been hit with federal charges for firearm and drug offenses, according to officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.
The grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment against Johnson on June 25, 2024, accusing him of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, a serious charge that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment. Johnson also faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, which could see him serve up to 15 years behind bars.
This is not Johnson’s first brush with the law. In April 2022, he was convicted in federal court for drug and firearm trafficking offenses. The authorities allege that on June 11, 2023, Johnson had in his possession a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol, ammunition, and distribution quantities of cocaine and fentanyl. He has been detained since his arrest by the Connecticut State Police in Wethersfield.
Johnson was already on federal supervised release when he committed these offenses, which is a clear violation of federal law. If found guilty, he could face additional penalties for violating the conditions of his supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery emphasized that an indictment does not prove guilt; it is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The investigation into Johnson’s activities has been a collaborative effort involving the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Connecticut State Police, the Wethersfield Police Department, and the West Hartford Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert S. Dearington is prosecuting the case.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal program aimed at reducing gun violence and violent crime in our communities. For more information on PSN, visit www.justice.gov/psn.
