Pierre Woman Indicted for Assaulting Federal Officers
Toni Ladeaux, a 21-year-old woman from Pierre, South Dakota, has been indicted on two counts of Assaulting, Resisting, and Impeding a Federal Officer.
According to the indictment, Ladeaux allegedly kicked multiple Rosebud Sioux Tribe law enforcement officers on February 8, 2018. She was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial.
The maximum penalty for each count upon conviction is up to 8 years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, 3 years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Ladeaux appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 12, 2018, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. A trial date has not been set.
The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Albertson is prosecuting the case.
The charges are merely accusations and Ladeaux is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The case serves as a reminder of the severe penalties for assaulting law enforcement officers.
