Woman Sentenced for Assaulting Federal Officer
A 24-year-old woman from Lower Brule, South Dakota, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison for assaulting a federal officer.
Lauren LaRoche, 24, was sentenced on May 15, 2013, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange. In addition to her 12-month prison sentence, LaRoche was also ordered to serve six months of supervised release and pay a $25 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The charge against LaRoche stems from an incident on February 8, 2013, in which she and her brother, Marty LaRoche, forcibly assaulted, resisted, opposed, impeded, intimidated, and interfered with a federal officer while the officer was performing his official duties.
LaRoche’s brother, Marty LaRoche, has also been charged in the incident and is awaiting sentencing. Lauren LaRoche pleaded guilty to an information on May 15, 2013, and was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
LaRoche’s sentence also includes a 5-month prison term for violating the terms of her supervised release. She was originally convicted of possessing a controlled firearm and was sentenced to 18 months in custody and two years of supervised release.
The investigation into the incident was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case.
